Surely, if all xapes.net users started to create a catalog of cava caps, we would end up with the result of 1000 different catalogs.
Due to different circumstances, each of us understands in our own way that a cap should be cataloged in one way or another. It is indeed complicated to find a formula that would allow unanimity in this regard. Even putting aside economic or other interests, cataloging, in general, always has points of disagreement.
In our environment, there are, for the moment, two main references when it comes to classifying caps. Both are, of course, respectable and above all made with effort. We refer to the publications of the “Cava Cap Collectors “CPC” and those of Jordi Viader (declared proprietary of ACP-Bagà).
xapes.net has been expanding its database with the willingness and work of its users and, of course, its owner. Besides facilitating exchange, it has seen the number of caps from different categories grow vertically to the point of exceeding 23,000 different units.
The goal of improving the classification of such a large amount of material has led to various interventions on the xapes.net forum along these lines.
Gathering the varied but well-defined intentions for improvement regarding classification, different users who publicly or privately expressed their willingness to work on it began organizing themselves to try to create working groups that should lead to a more real and objective adaptation of cava cap classification, always counting on the technical involvement of David Gironella.
The result of this is this re-cataloging proposal, which includes the concepts and criteria that, in our opinion, should be applied and are specified in the different sections.
The very independence of the people who have worked on this project has led to the creation of new groups for cataloging cava caps. This sensitive aspect is reflected not only in the clear differentiation of the so-called ET (special find) but also in making known the existence of a large number of commercial caps (CO), the definition of which is explained in the corresponding section.
